Stephen Walker’s visit in November was very enlightening. He told us about some of the history of Gedling and how he had been heavily involved with the recent book about the borough. He explained how – along with Hucknall Heritage Society something similar for Hucknall could be attempted as well as a town walk leaflet showing the conservation area. Some U3A members volunteered to help when definite needs/ideas had been settled.

No meeting in December – too near Xmas.

Stephen Flinders will be coming on Wednesday 15th January, 2020, with his Box of Curiosities, starting again with the presentation at 2.00 pm sharp. I will need a few early helpers for this meeting as Stephen would like the room set out differently. How do you feel about the speakers starting at 2.00 pm on a regular basis when we have them?

Wednesday, February 19th, 2020 is a members’ meeting. I have asked members to bring a ‘HISTORY’ book to explain to others why it is a good read. It might be factual non fiction, classic story, book of photographs, historic detective thriller, fiction set in past times or even an old map. Please bring a book telling members a little about the contents and why you suggest they should enjoy or learn something from your suggestion.

March 18th, 2020 is a visit to King Richard lll in Leicester. Kath & Kathy will be taking names, payments and giving receipts starting at the January U3A meeting on Wednesday January 8th. There is a list available at the meetings or on the website for History Group dates/arrangements during 2020.

Happy Christmas and a great New Year to members of the History Group and all members of Hucknall U3A.
