Litter Picking

Once again the litter pickers have been busy clearing litter from our environment. In February the ‘grot spot’ was The Ranges in Hucknall where 2 members collected 7 bags of rubbish and a tarpaulin – and they could have collected a lot more had they not run out of bags. They had to leave behind a duvet which due to the rain was too heavy and bulky to carry and weirdly most of the ‘rubbish’ they collected consisted of small bags of single bananas, lots and lots of unopened packets of crisps and other ‘party’ litter. Its an area to keep our eye on.

Litter Picking

January has been rather a soggy month so credit must go to those members of the group who have braved the wet weather and collected a total of 14 bags of rubbish within our area. Not only do the litter pickers get wet but so does the litter which makes it even heavier to carry. Last year 190 bags of rubbish were collected in total by the group.

If anyone has any concerns about litter in a particular area please let us know and we will make every endeavour to deal with it.

Litter Picking

16 Bags of litter have been collected by the group in October. On one particular day 2 members of the group had a successful but very disheartening time collecting 9 bags of rubbish, 7 of which were from the field at the bottom of Nabbs Lane. One passer-by said they shouldn’t bother as it would be just as bad the following day and another lady said she was on the field earlier when there was a football match and saw people finishing their bottled drinks and just throwing them down. What absolutely shameful behaviour! Our litter pickers said that it looked as though a lorry had scattered a full load all around the area.

They would have collected more but didn’t take enough bags with them. They shouldn’t have to! Litter louts should be responsible for their own actions and dispose of their litter in a responsible manner but – non multum spei.

Litter Picking

A total of 14 bags of rubbish have been collected from our area this month by members of the group who are doing a sterling job trying to keep our environment tidy.

One ‘grot spot’ which has been identified is the bottom end of the bypass. The problem is that it doesn’t take long to fill a bag with rubbish. The bags then become rather heavy to carry to the nearest litter bin which is in a layby on the bypass. The area around the litter bin is also frequently strewn with rubbish some of which is from bags which have been ripped open probably by wildlife. Together with The Wombles who are also prolific Hucknall litter pickers our aim is to have another litter bin installed towards the lower end of the bypass.

Wish us luck with that project!

Litter Picking

Combined with the holiday season and another very warm month, August has not been conducive to members spending a lot of time outside collecting rubbish. Nevertheless, 14 bags of litter have been removed from our environment by the group. One member who regularly litter picks on a park has noticed that despite there being ample litter bins at strategic points, during the school holidays there is an increase in litter strewn about the park even in the trees! At least ‘back to school’ is nearly upon us.

If anyone is interested in joining our group please contact me as per details at the end of the newsletter.
