Games Afternoon

On Friday 27th March 72 members enjoyed an afternoon of friendly competitive games.

In Part One Teams of 4 competed against each other to play: Bar Skittles, Shut The Box, Executive Golf, Shuffleboard, Basket Toss Connect 4, The Bomb and Sticky Ball Darts.

At the break we enjoyed an excellent buffet provided by Cathy our regular caterer and tea and coffee were provided by Christine and John Berrill.

During the break teams completed a silent quiz and it could have been the food or the quiz, but following a hectic playing session hush descended in the hall.

To complete the afternoon Melvyn led 2 card games of ‘Sticky 13’

When players started to declare ‘last card’ the tension was palpable.

A prize of a pack of Cadbury’s Cream Eggs was awarded to the winners of the quiz and Sticky 13 games.

For the Team Games two teams tied for 1st place a tie breaker game was won by

Kay Twells, John Twells , Marion Curran and Alan Curran

who received eggs and a golden cup.

The Social Sub Committee wish to thank all competitors, the staff at JGC and Cathy for supporting this fun event. A date for your diary is Friday June 26th Disco and Hog Roast.

Interest Group Leaders and Helpers Meeting

On the 30th January, we held a get together and meeting for our Interest Group Leaders, Helpers and Committee Members.

With 42 people in attendance, we had some very profitable discussions.

We started with a few updates from the Committee on Guidelines for: Affiliated and Temporary Members; Data Security; Group Finances and we had the opportunity to ask Committee Members any burning questions.

The main focus of the meeting was then to think about possible new Interest Groups.

As a Committee we would like to try and introduce a few more to our list of 47.

Those who attended the meeting were very helpful and I now have a list of possible new groups. Of course, a new Interest Group needs a Leader, so we also discussed how best to achieve this and what sort of help is needed by a new Group Leader.

I will give you more details in a future Newsletter, which will give me time to consider these possibilities.

We finished the meeting with six fictional Scenarios. These created a lively end to our meeting.

Our Group Leaders and their Helpers are doing a great job and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.

  “A Christmas Story,”

A Christmas Story is a nostalgic holiday comedy set in 1940s Indiana, following young Ralphie Parker’s quest for a Red Ryder BB gun. Blending humour and warmth, it captures childhood dreams, family quirks, and festive traditions. Iconic moments include the leg lamp, the tongue-on-a-pole dare, and Ralphie’s relentless wish despite warnings he’ll “shoot his eye out.” Its timeless charm and relatable family chaos have made it a perennial Christmas classic cherished across generations.

and the premiere of a supporting short film, “The Disappearing Husband.”

Following from a chance meeting with an old friend a recent retiree begins to wander off at random. Where to? Nobody knows. A case for shady private detective Vince and his equally dodgy assistant. (They are not that good, but they are cheap)

Holmes and Watson they are not.

Hucknall Food Bank Donations

At the film show there will be a voluntary collection of non-perishable food and cash.
