Easy Wheelers Longer Ride

Our latest longer ride started out in unpromising grey and slightly damp weather, but the sun soon shone on the 3 intrepid members who cycled from Shipley Park to Trent Lock. This is becoming a favourite ride, with just over 40 km entirely on either footpath or canal towpath. The route passes along one side of Shipley Park, before joining the Nutbrook trail, then the Erewash Canal towpath. We made a brief stop to inspect the work going on at the lock at what was the original junction with the Derby & Sandiacre canal. The lock has been drained for repairs to the lock walls and this gives a good insight into how locks were constructed. We also passed near the proposed site for the High Speed 2 East Midlands station at Toton, but we will have to wait for around 19 years or so to see it in action!
We are continuing our shorter Wednesday morning rides around local routes, always including a coffee stop, and starting at 9.00 from Hucknall Leisure Centre. If you would like to try a ride of around 2 ½ hours, contact our Co-ordinator on the form below to check on the route beforehand.
