I must start with an apology and a thank you to Tony [and Sandra] Braithwaite who led our November walk. I could see your faces, but got the names wrong. You would think having been a teacher and having to remember 30 names I could get two right! So thank you both for taking it in good part.
In January, 21 members of the short walks group enjoyed a pleasant walk in the winter sunshine to Newstead Abbey and back, followed by a slightly later than usual lunch at the Horse and Groom, Linby. We were unable to do the Newstead Abbey circuit as the old mine track was being resurfaced and therefore the path from Newstead Village was closed. An interesting phenomenon on the way was a crop that looked like very tall barley that had not been harvested. It turned out to be BAMBOO which is used by the textile industry.
Our next walk is 4.75 miles and starts from the Bowman Pub, Nottingham Road, Hucknall at 10.00a.m. on Thursday 19th February. We will walk to Butlers Hill tram stop to catch the tram to Davids Lane, Basford, so please remember to bring your BUS PASS. Everyone welcome – just turn up on the day.
Offers to lead a walk would be greatly appreciated, as it would be good to get our year’s programme finalised.
