Reading Group

In August we read “The Chilbury Ladies’ Choir” by Jennifer Ryan. While their men are off fighting the Nazis, the women in the English village of Chilbury struggle to carry on. Though the action spans only a few months in 1940, a lot happens: there are bombings, a nefarious baby-swapping scheme, passionate love affairs, acts of espionage and of great valour. This was not one of our usual choices but was very enjoyable.

There are enough names to start a second Reading Group and these members have been contacted. Those interested should contact Siobhan Lee, the Groups’ Co-ordinator if they still wish to join a second Reading Group.

We also attend talks put on by Hucknall Library with guest authors, which can be very enlightening. The Library also has a “Crime Café” on the second Tuesday of each month, with guest speakers as well as discussions.
