North Notts Neighbourhood Group of U3As Picnic in the Park 4 June 2014
Hucknall U3A along with nine of its North Notts Neighbours met at Rufford Abbey Country Park for its 4th Picnic in the Park. Hucknall U3A took responsibility for organising the Outdoor Games but due to incessant rain, the cricket, rounders, boules and welly wanging were abandoned, wellies were required to paddle to the facilities. The organisers suggested aqua aerobics and canoeing in the ford but as swimsuits and canoes could not be found these activities were also abandoned. This did not however dampen their spirits, instead of sitting outside they congregated in the large marque where the Retford recorder group provided background music before the massed U3A choirs led the singing of WW1 songs. During the picnic lunch a gentleman from Retford U3A who is the soloist with Worksop U3A Swing Band serenaded everyone. One thing that was not in short supply was friendship, food and drink.
