On Tuesday, 21st August, eight optimistic anglers met for a day out at Aldercar Fishery. Following an 8.00 am breakfast at ‘Maggie’s Cabin’, which is on site, we meandered down to Snipe Lake and settled into our allocated area.
Alan Newton kindly helped David Wormall to set up and dispensed advice on tactics. David is a renowned fly fisherman who is skilled at creating and using artificial flies but is a relative novice at coarse fishing.
Everyone caught fish including some hefty common and mirror carp which, once hooked, set off with powerful surging runs. If they decided to take your bait off they went and, unfortunately, if your attention wavered and this happened, they took your rod and tackle away into the lake.
This did happen to one member who should know better and the photograph shows Alan Newton trying to retrieve it (for me!).
Just before we finished at 3.00 pm David Wormall managed to snare a magnificent 7lb 8oz carp which took about ten minutes to land and this capped a good day out.
