On April 24th we had an interesting visit to a niche manufacturer the John Taylor Bell Foundry in Loughborough. It was reminiscent of a Dickensian scene of heat, dust and dirt according to some of the group who can still remember ‘the good old days’.
It was impressive to see the skill of the workforce who not only design, cast and tune new bells but also refurbish and refit bells for churches and other organisations. The bells in Hucknall Parish Church were cast there in 1958.
