Music for Pleasure – Nostalgia

Nostalgia was once again on the agenda for the Music for Pleasure group at their latest meeting on 22nd March, when the main choice of music consisted of the Carpenters and Simon & Garfunkel. The glorious voice of Karen Carpenter provided so many memories of a young life cut tragically short. However, it’s good to know that the unforgettable songs of the Carpenters will forever keep her music alive.
Simon and Garfunkel also provided us with rich musical memories, both from their harmonisation and from the beautiful solo voice of Art Garfunkel. ‘Bridge over Troubled Water’ must surely be on the playlist of favourites for so many of us.
As usual, the conversation was both diverse and entertaining. Our customary mid-session coffee break was enhanced by some delicious cookies provided by Jean Arrowsmith (one was certainly not enough!)
There was a lengthy discussion about the choice of music for our next meeting. Suggestions ranged from country and western to big band and jazz, all of which we will probably dip into at the next and future meetings.
Anyone who would like to join us would be welcome. Contact our co-ordinator, John Peters on 9634990.
