Music for Pleasure Musical Evening

The Music for Pleasure group enjoyed another varied musical evening at the home of John Peters on Tuesday 31st May.
As ever, the choice of music was wide-ranging. The first half of the evening was devoted to a selection of harp music by Rupert Parker followed by the superb guitar playing of John Williams with his group Sky. His take on both classical and popular music themes amply displayed musicianship and his mastery of the guitar.
After a short break for refreshments with coffee, tea and home-made cake, the second half of the evening’s programme consisted of a lively selection of standards by Jools Holland and his orchestra with guest vocalists. This provided plenty of entertainment in the form of memory exercise to guess the name of the singer.
The evening finished with some golden oldies – Whispering Grass by the Ink Spots, some humour in the form of the Goodies’ Funky Gibbon and finally a rendition of the folk classic Black Velvet Band.
The next session will be devoted to piano music in its various forms, ranging from classical to jazz.
