Several members of the group took part in the Great Notts Cycle event on Sunday 26th June.
Together with about one thousand other riders we rode the 50 mile ‘Robin Hood’ circuit from the Trent Bridge Embankment out to Cotgrave ,Langar, Sibthorpe, Car Colston, Radcliffe –On- Trent and back to the start via the Nottingham Forest Stadium.
It was a wet start to the day but the weather fortunately turned pleasantly breezy with some sunshine.
There were four first timers on the ride who deserve a special mention:
Brian Stanley, John Gibson, James (Jim) Spray and Sue Gibson
For each of them it was a personal challenge to ride that distance and they were ably supported by the grizzled veterans John Saunders and our ‘Queen of the Hills’ Val Gant.
John kept energy levels up by sharing his special recipe flapjacks . Fortunately none of us were called in for a random drugs test after eating them…
We rode under the banner of ‘The Easy Wheelers’ which was the original name of the U3A cycling group started by Alan Snape about 8 years ago.
