“Spotted on the B600 (Church Road, Greasley) – 36 Santas and Christmas revellers………..could they have been from Hucknall U3A?”
Well, it was our last walk of the year, so we thought, “why not have a bit of fun!!”
Our walk, led by Irene Astill and Teresa Mercer was a really interesting 4.5 mile walk starting from The Horse and Groom pub in Moorgreen. First of all we headed off down the road to Greasley church graveyard to see Captain Cook’s surgeon’s grave and then off for a lovely countryside ramble. On our return we were taken to see the well on Trough Road, which not many of the group had seen before. Folk Lore tells us that a boy was healed when baptised with water from the well. We were very much in place there, wearing out Santa hats, as the well was adorned with garden gnomes!
After our 2.5 hour walk we settled down in the pub for our Christmas get-together dinner. We had a smashing time – a good end to a good year of walking together.
Sue Tedstone.
Our next walk is on: Monday 20th January 2014 – To Underwood
