Lunch Group July

What a beautiful sunny day we had on July 23rd at Biondi Bistro at Gunthorpe Lock. The food and service were excellent and this makes a lovely venue for people to just to call in, have a coffee and a walk up the tow path. The Italian-themed quiz was won by the team made up of Rosemary and Tony Taylor, Jo Butler and Siobbhan Lee. Members liked the idea of multiple choice answers!
Our August 27th lunch will be at Encounters on Mansfield Road, Nottingham and I was surprised that they did not want us to pre-order but there is either a two courses lunch for £9.95 or three courses for £12.95. Starters include a soup, or melon or three other choices; mains include a fish dish, a vegetarian dish and three meat dishes and there will be a choice from five desserts. Everyone I have spoken to says what a good reputation this venue has so we are looking forward to that and of course it is easily accessible, just across the road from the Victoria Bus Station in Nottingham.
For those cricket fans amongst us, our September 24th venue will be very familiar: Larwood & Voce restaurant at Notts. County Cricket Ground. They have a lunchtime special menu at £7.77 (understandably called The Magnificent Seven) but details of this will not be available to us until 1st September as the menu changes monthly. Again buses regularly go from either Lower Parliament Street or Angel Row but there will be some parking on Fox Road itself.
We are hoping the trees will be about to change colour for our visit on October 22nd when we go to Forever Green, Ransom Wood, near Rainworth. This is a slightly more expensive but limited menu at two courses for £12.95 or three courses for £16.95. Again the menu will be on the website in this month.
It seems to be strange to be planning our lunches for the winter months when it is scorching hot outside. In November we are going to the Old Green Dragon at Oxton but I do not yet have the menu for this.
There is still time to put your names down for the Christmas Lunch at the Albert Hall and/or the Pantomime at Nottingham Playhouse on Wednesday, 17th December. I will be collecting deposits this month and next and for this larger amount please let me have your cheque made payable to Hucknall & District U3A. The Christmas Lunch deposit is £10 and the Panto deposit is £7.50.
