Chairman's Message January 2018

A Happy and Healthy New Year and 2018 to all our members and their families.
We certainly finished 2017 with a flourish starting with the ever popular lunch and social on the 4th December followed by the Showcase event on the 13th. The inaugural Showcase last year was a great success attended by about 150 members. This year building on that success 220 members attended to be royally entertained by colleagues across a range of Interest Groups. This event has become a permanent fixture on our calendar.
Our thanks are extended to all who took part and to Siobhan for coordinating the programme. It was the annual Christmas Tree display in St Mary’s church from Wednesday 6th to Saturday 9th when for the 2nd consecutive year Hucknall and District U3A were announced the winners of the Senior section competition with Hillside Primary school retaining the Junior title.
Many members visited to see the really innovative and creative trees on display and this year we were up against some stiff competition.
Our tree was made by the Reading Group from recycled books and I have been told in confidence that they got through a almost a whole library full in the search for perfection!

Siobhan ,Cath Richardson, Kate Jackson and Sandra Green with the triumphant tree. Not in the photo are Angela Underwood, Margaret White and Alan Lee who were also involved in designing and making the tree.
