Chairman's Lunch

Sunday 17 March was the date for the Hucknall and District U3A Chairman’s Lunch. Geoff Cree welcomed the 42 guests who stood to welcome the guest of honour Richard White and Di his wife, Barbara said grace before everyone sat for lunch.

We were served a very tasty lunch of Roasted Vegetable Soup, the most tender Roast Beef accompanied by a Yorkshire Pudding that filled the plate. Roast potatoes and beautifully cooked vegetable came as an accompaniment and gravy flowed, a little like the rain of the previous evening. Apple tart and custard arrived to finish off, putting pay to all those good intentions of dieting.
This year it was held in recognition of the hard work put in by Richard White as the Chairman for the first two years of the Group. Richard was a main player in the formation of Hucknall & District U3A taking the reins or as John Ellis the Chairman for the second term described his work ‘driving the bus’ which through Richards effort was initially ‘fuelled’ by his applications for funding. The ‘bus’ was set on it’s route by the Committee under his direction and passengers joined through out his two years taking them to various destinations, these being the Interest Groups and of course the many holidays that Richard has organised.
Richards responded by telling a couple of jokes at the expense of Geoff and John, then thanking everyone for their support not only during the start of Hucknall U3A but also for their friendship and support during his illness. He thanked Di and his family for being there for him and giving him the strength to continue with not only his U3A holidays but also his work with the Rotary Club of Hucknall.

Guest of Honour Richard White thanks everyone for their support
