We all really enjoyed our first trip of the year into Derbyshire. The 6 mile walk, led by Irene and Teresa was really interesting, a new area for most of us. Starting from the Tavern Inn in Tansley, twenty five of us set off surrounded by mist, which quickly disappeared (fortunately!), to be replaced by glorious spring sunshine. The walk was quite hilly in parts but the views were fantastic, especially from Riber Castle and The War Memorial Monument at Pic Tor. Most of us took Irene up on her ‘optional extra’ hill, which was well worth the effort because we saw the waterfalls and lake that fed the mills in the past. This area is now preserved by the Arkwright Society. The walk took us 4 hours and concluded, as usual, with a drink at the Tavern Inn.
Thank you to Irene and Teresa.
Our next walk is on: Monday 18th May- Carsington Water – 6 miles
