Short Walk February

Our next walk will be on Thursday February 16th. We will be meeting at Alfreton Leisure Centre around 9.45am for a 10.00am start.
We couldn’t find any free parking. The leisure centre has a parking charge of £3.00 for 3 hours or £5.00 all day, so suggest car-sharing if possible. We estimate the walk will take 2 hours 30 minutes. We suggest that we don’t go into pay the fee until the last minute (just in case the walk takes longer) and we then can go in together. We have to park at the lower end of the car park.
This will be a 4mile walk (approx.) with 90% footpaths, 10% country roads. Undulating countryside. Several stiles.
Briefly, the route is by St Martin’s church, we follow the track eventually going across the golf course and Oakerthorpe Nature Reserve. We follow the path, with views of Wingfield Manor, walking by the River Amber, through the churchyard at Wingfield, then crossing several fields to reach the track back to the carpark.
Some of the route will be very muddy after rain and there is a downhill stretch, with steps, which may be slippery after rain. A walking pole is advised.
Look forward to seeing those who would like to join us.
