Picnic in the Park

Oh what A Day! The hottest day on record. Hucknall U3A members joined with members of the other NNN U3A’s for a day out, Worksop group, Back Tracks making music in the marquee, while
tables and chairs were set up in the shade of the trees in Rufford Country Park. Despite the heat members joined in a game of cricket, two mixed teams with the final result, a draw.
Following lunch the wellie-wanging proved very popular. Ladies had a size five wellies, men a size ten. It was interesting to watch, very competitive, especially where a husband and wife were competing, despite the fact there was to be a ladies and gents winner. The winner for the ladies was Janet from Sherwood U3A and for the men was Colin from Ashfield U3A.
A short break to cool down, have a drink and it was then rounders, again mixed teams. The competitiveness starting with the teams having a huddle to discuss tactics and one team performing a ‘Hakka’ face to face with their opponents.
The exuberance of the teams was surprising, shouting encouragement, running to field the ball, when anyone managed to hit it, even one batsman went for the ball with such gusto, he missed it but ended up flat on the grass. No injury we are pleased to say. The winners, having contested the score, team ‘A’, captained by your Vice Chairman.
Members then relaxed either making the most of the fine day, playing boules, or chatting to friends.
Thank you to all the members who came to support the NNNG, members of the committee put in a lot of work to organize this event.
Also thank you to those members who helped umpire and organise the games.
