Music for Pleasure September Update

The Music for Pleasure group met at the home of our co-ordinator, John Peters, on Tuesday 27th September. We welcomed yet another new member, Stuart, to our group, which now means that we have the maximum number for our very enjoyable evenings of music and conversation.
This week, John gave us the usual eclectic mix of pop and classical genres. We began with ‘old standard’ and show music from Alexander Armstrong, best known as the presenter of TV quiz show Pointless, but also the possessor of a fine, trained baritone voice. By contrast we followed this with excerpts from The Planet Suite by Gustav Holst.
As the following day marked the birthday of one of our members, Jean, we then had a surprise ‘Happy Birthday’ break for coffee, tea and birthday cakes.
The second half of the evening continued with some Classic Rock – well known classical themes played to a full orchestral score, and finally some items from The King, Elvis.
As usual, we all enjoyed the mix of music and conversation, and look forward to our next meeting on 25th October when we will have another wide-ranging selection of music to suit all our tastes.
