The March walk from Hayton, managed to find a day where the wind had finally dropped to reasonable levels and 23 of us set off to discover the high ground in North Nottinghamshire. Most agreed this was not an area they were familiar with. After an initial climb in the sun, we were rewarded with great views across Nottinghamshire, including a distant view of Lincoln Cathedral and two power stations. After a stop for a drink, we continued on, following the Trent Valley way for a short distance, before heading through Clayworth and onto the Chesterfield canal towpath. The group slowed to look at all the Canal Boats, with well over 20 moored on this stretch, before walking on for lunch, and then back to the pub.
Special thanks go to the landlady of the Boat Inn at Hayton, who, even though they are closed on Monday as a rule, opened up for toilets before we set off and again for drinks, and food for four of our group, on our return.
This was a great walk, led by Steve and Anne Lawrence.
Our next walk is from Car Colston – on Monday, April 15th, 2019
