Our May walk, planned by Paul and Di Healey was a 7 mile circular starting from Millers Dale Station Car Park. Led by John Tedstone, we set off up the Monsal Trail as far as Monsal Head. Then after a steep scramble down to the bridge, we went over the River Wye and found our picnic spot, a lovely area alongside the river.
Walking along Millers Dale we saw orchids, forget-me-knots, wood anemones and cowslips; birds, fishermen and rock climbers. The highlight had to be the cygnet riding on his mother’s back – very sweet.
Our walk ended in the Angler’s Rest pub for a quick drink before climbing back up to the car park. The pub positively encourages hikers into the bar, which makes a nice change.
We had a very enjoyable day with a smaller group than usual, which wasn’t a bad thing because it gave us time to have a chat with lots of different people en-route.
Thank you to Paul, Di and John.
Our next walk is on:
Monday 17th June – to Castleton
The group’s walks are 5-7 miles in length and take place on the
3rd Monday of the month, February – November.
