Creative Writing Group

We meet from 1-3 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Our venue from September will be the Liberal Club on West Street. Our Co-ordinator, Janet Gibson, gives us a title, sentence or just a word to inspire us to write a piece of around 500 words which we develop at home and then read out to fellow members at the next meeting, for constructive criticism and appraisal. After a short tea-break we then do a ten minute writing exercise or something similar.

Our “homework” for August was related to one of the following subjects: “All that glisters is not gold”, “Youth is wasted on the young” or “The customer is always right”.

Unfortunately our Social Get Together for coffee on the 28th August at the Horse & Groom in Linby was a non-starter due to the road into Linby in both directions being closed to traffic for roadworks. Somehow three members managed to get to the venue before the road was closed off but the rest of us didn’t! So we had to go to the nearest place for coffee (Tee House, Wigwam Lane) instead. Very many apologies to everyone and hopefully our Christmas social get together will be more successful!

New members are very welcome to join us on Group sessions, just bring pen and paper!
