Gardening Report July

Continuing with our summer visits, in June we visited the Woodpeckers at Burton Joyce. Our July visit will be to 48 Penarth Gardens in Sherwood on Tuesday 15th July. Arrival is planned for 2.00 p.m. There is a £3 admission charge and still room on the mini bus at £5 per person. Please see Judith at the back of the hall at this Wednesdays Monthly U3A meeting to grab your place. If you are travelling by car the postal address for your sat nav is NG5 4EG.
The bus leaves Ogle Street at 1.30. Teas and cakes are on sale. All proceeds go to children’s charities. This is a special opening just for us to one of Nottingham’s hidden gems set on the site of the old Nottm Brickwork Quarry. There are many unusual plants with the clever use of mirrors to give the garden a greater dimension.There is also a stilted tree house, bamboos, palms and specimen shrubs. Penarth Gardens is at the top of Winchester Street and entrance to this can either be from Mansfield Road or Woodborough Road.
In August we shall be visiting Meynell Langley Trials Gardens situated near Kedleston Hall. Judith is now taking bookings for this visit with an admission charge of £3 plus bus fare ( £7 per person) Departure from Hucknall at 12 mid day Tea Rooms are open all day and we are told that their gardens are at their best in August. There is a large Victorian Garden with new varieties of bedding plants, herbaceous perrennials and vegetable plants. there are in excess of 180 hanging baskets and floral displays with 85 varieties of apple, pear and other trees. We are also taking bookings now for Harlow Carr visit on Tuesday September 16th. As this is at Harrogate a 48 seater coach is being organised.
