The History Group always welcomes all U3A members especially new ones. Our usual indoor meeting place is Central Methodist Church: time 2pm – 4pm ish – on the third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are now in the Church Room which it is hoped will be much better for those members who have hearing problems. I have asked for us to continue with this booking. We have had some problems with visual images and sound which I am attempting to overcome.
Our October meeting was a visit to The Derby Museum of Making which was absolutely fantastic despite the tours around Derby City centre trying to find the building. Most of us thoroughly enjoyed our time there which had interests for every age group including us. We pulled out drawers, slid racks along, marvelled at the exhibits hanging from the roof and tried our hands at puzzles. I have thanked the staff but also complained about the lack of direction signs to get there and missing notices about the café closing meaning quite a few of us were disappointed.
One more point. There was quite naturally so much information about Rolls Royce but why did we see nothing at all about the amazing work in Hucknall to develop the Harrier aeroplane via The Flying Bedstead?
November 16th 2022 Trevor Lee is coming to talk to us. He usually provides us with mind pictures of entertainers; sometimes even their voices. Lots of reminiscing at this meeting. Trevor has decided to call his talk “Radio Fun” to link in with the ‘100 years anniversary of the BBC’.
Bye for now – Maureen
