MID-LENGTH WALKING GROUP
Ashford-in-the-Water was the venue for our July walk; it was a bright sunny day for the 27 walkers. A brisk hill start was followed by a field full of long horned cattle, this quickened the pace even more! After a few squeeze stiles we joined the Monsal Trail and passed through the Monsal Head tunnel and then back into beautiful sunshine to overlook the River Wye from the popular viaduct. It was then forward down to the river and along the valley floor towards the weir. We climbed upwards to the Monsal Head Hotel where we sat overlooking the valley to eat our picnic lunch, followed by ice cream! Returning to Ashford we passed a field full of wheat and peas sown together. We assume that the nitrogen from the peas helps to produce a healthier crop of corn. The peas were small but very sweet!! Our walk finished outside The Bulls Head for a refreshing drink, a perfect end to a lovely day. Thank you to Albert and Carol.
