Mid-Length Walking Group

In January we swapped muddy fields and stiles for the paved streets of Nottingham city centre and took part in our first ‘Architectural Awareness photo quiz walk’.

The event proved very popular, with 41 taking part. We were split into six teams, each of which was provided with a sheet of 28 photos of specific architectural features of some of the older buildings, a list of street names and a city centre map. The aim was to match the photos to the location and to return to The Bell Inn once completed. We had really earned our lunch!

John Saunders and David Jackson planned the whole event, so they had the task of marking our sheets. Who could have guessed how competitive all the teams would prove to be and how fastidious in their quest! Of the six teams, four correctly placed all of the photos, with the other two teams only marginally behind. After a set of tie-break questions, ‘Roadrunners’ won by the narrowest of margins; captained by John Beharall.

So well did the participants do that the organisers have sworn to be sneakier next time!

Our next walk is – Belvoir on Monday 18th February, 2019
