The Nottingham Princess Lunch
The Hucknall U3A Lunch Group was formed in July, 2008 and since then has visited many restaurants throughout Nottinghamshire. Sandra Green is the Co-ordinator and on average forty U3A members meet up once a month, usually on the fourth Wednesday at 12 noon, for lunch.
The Lunch Group very rarely goes to the same venue twice so that members get an opportunity to test a place out before returning with friends and family. It is a chance to try restaurants you may not have thought about before or a place you may not have gone to on your own.
The plan is to visit a venue closer to home one month and go a bit further afield the next month and then alternate “home or away”. Sandra provides a light-hearted quiz sheet each month where possible, usually when the Lunch Group has a venue all to itself, so as not to annoy other diners! Some menus are dearer than others but on average it works out at about £7 per main course.
There is an annual admin fee of £1 per person which covers the cost of the Co-ordinator’s expenses such as phone calls, posters, quiz sheets and prizes. Because the Lunch Group is popular, unfortunately it’s a case of “first come, first served” when putting your name down on the monthly list. Of course, there is nothing to stop someone starting a Lunch Group Two!
