Flower Arranging

The first meeting of the Flower Arranging Group got off to a great start, with plenty of people turning up to make it viable. A demonstration was given on a spiral arrangement, which everyone either did their interpretation of or went freestyle. The arrangements everyone produced were lovely.

Another demonstration was given using tulips and cordilines/phormiums for members to have a go at the next meeting on 7th March.

Everyone went home happy with their creations and knowing that the only proviso of the group is that they have created something they are proud of and enjoyed themselves whist they were doing it.

Next meeting 7th March. The demonstration will be Easter themed to do in April.

Thank you Siobhan

Fun with Languages

This course has been running for a few years now and we are conscious that we have several new U3A members. In order to give new people a chance to learn a language, we have decided to start Spanish from scratch on 10th March at the John Godber Centre at 10.30 am until 12 noon. This is a good chance to start now, if you want to join us. It will be a good refresher too for the rest of us!!

We meet in the Byron Suite and you will be made welcome. February saw the last of our French sessions for a little while and we had a good time reading and answering questions on les Frères et les Soeurs, and had a deep discussion emanating from this. Thanks to all those who contributed.

Sadly we have lost four members due to the Insleys move and others going on to pastures new; we wish them all well.

Hope to see you next month!

Ann Murray and Liz Attenborough.

Film Club

Before the Pandemic a number of our members would attend the Thursday Silver Screen, at The Broadway Cinema. The reason may have been that two showings of a popular film would be shown that day at the low price of £5. The Broadway Cinema was easily accessible for Hucknall residents, the cinema being just around the corner from the Lace market Tram stop. Also the fact that free tea and coffee and biscuits could be had in the cafe before the film and that the films were chosen as being suitable for an audience of Senior Citizens. In addition there is a discount for members of the u3a.

These Thursday sessions have now recommenced and next week 17th February, 2022, at 10.30 am and 13.30 pm the film being shown will be The Eyes of Tammy Faye, one of the most famous and renowned women in American history.

The following week, Thursday 24th the film will be Death on the Nile, with Kenneth Branagh and Judi Dench. also at 10.30 am and 13.30 pm.

If you go make sure that you get there in good time to get your tickets and refreshments.
