Tina Holmes Chair

When I joined the u3a in 2017, despite having lived in Hucknall for nearly seven years, I knew very few people. Since joining the u3a it is rare for me to go into Hucknall and not bump into someone I know.
The role of chair has a number of facets including, chairing the committee meetings, running the members monthly meeting, attending the Nottinghamshire Network Meeting (shared with the Business Manager), keeping members up to date on The Third Age Trust, promoting the ethos of u3a.

Bob McEwen: Vice Chair

The committee role of the Vice Chair is to support the Chair and all the other committee members in carrying out their responsibilities. It can sound dull but it requires the VC to have an understanding of each role. The VC is often the public face of the u3a and also liaises with local and national sub groups.

Kevin Varey Business Secretary

The purpose of the role is to ensure Hucknall & District u3a, and it’s members, operates legally and correctly. As a registered charity it has to comply with various pieces of legislation, which can and do change over time.
As our u3a is affiliated to the Third Age Trust, Committee Members are able to tap into a wealth of knowledge and advice specific to their particular role, as well as written material there are video training courses and Peer Support Groups for information and help.

Gary Holmes Treasurer

Being someone more comfortable with a plan than without one, before I retired I spoke to a number of people including (obviously) my wife Tina and my friends Fred and Rose Ridley about hobbies and activities I might take up in retirement. Fred and Rose were very keen that Tina and I try the u3a, as they assured us it provided a friendly framework within which we could join in with a range of things. Thus Hucknall u3a became two members stronger and certainly I gained far more than I realised I might.
When Christine Berrill had served her term (sounds bad doesn’t it) as Treasurer and the Committee asked for volunteers, I felt that it was time to give a little back and offered my services. It has been both challenging and rewarding to be the Treasurer and I am sure that when my time is up, whoever steps forward will enjoy the journey likewise.

John Pretty Beacon Administrator

The Beacon System keeps the details of all u3a members. It is also the safe method of email communication. My job is to keep it up to date and running smoothly.
I Joined Hucknall & District u3a in 2021 and was elected to the Committee in 2023. My u3a interest groups include Cycling, Ukulele and Bridge.
