Lunch Group – Change of Venue

The venue has had to be changed for our lunch group on Wednesday, 25th January, 2023 and will now be at The Broomhill on Broomhill Road at 12 noon. The food is very good and reasonably priced. For those who have put their names down already their places are booked but the list is now closed.

Can those who have put their names down, please confirm to Sandra by email or phone that they are still going.

On February 22nd the venue is Miller & Carter at Papplewick.

Flower Arranging

December’s Flower Arranging Group met at Siobhan’s home to have a fun filled afternoon creating Christmas arrangements and eating birthday cake and cup cakes. A variety of arrangements were made ranging from door wreaths to table arrangements. It was a bit like where you see how many people you can fit in a mini but, as always with this group, everyone went home with a smile on their face and lovely items to grace their homes for the Christmas holidays.

The next meeting is February 6th, 2023 at the John Godber Centre 1.30 – 3.30 pm when the title is recycle and reuse. There are still spaces for new members.

Prices for each visit will be notified in the New Year.

We have had a total of 25 members express an interest in completing an overnight visit to visit National Trust properties over two days but sadly this number is not enough to make it viable so we will revisit this idea at a later date.

Anyone wanting to join the group for 2023 please contact me and also anyone with any questions also please feel free to contact me.

We will update the group members each month by using Beacon and putting information in to the monthly Newsletter and on to this Website

Litter Picking Group

As expected December was rather a slow month for litter picking – unsurprisingly members had got other things to do on the run up to Christmas. However, two members discovered a way of shaking off a Christmas Day hangover on a cold and windy but sunny Boxing Day. They collected 3 bags of rubbish between them by chasing blowing litter near to where they live. That’s dedication for you!

If anyone wishes to make a New Year resolution to come and join our litter picking group, please feel free to do so. You will be made very welcome and please be assured that chasing after litter on a windy day is not compulsory! I can be contacted via the contact form below:-

    History Group

The History Group always welcomes all U3A members especially new ones. Our indoor meeting place is Central Methodist Church: time 2pm – 4pm ish – on the third Wednesday of the month. Meetings are now in the Church Room which has proved much better for those members who have hearing problems. We have had some problems with visual images and sound but with help from Graham Daft of Central Methodist Church and special thanks to our member Greg they seem to have been overcome.

The next meeting is January 18th, 2023 at Central when Peter Armour is coming to give a presentation on Derbyshire its Character and Characters. I look forward to seeing you then.

Did you know that the school on Beardall Street is 150 years old on 13th January 2023? To celebrate this special anniversary Sue Knight and myself of Hucknall Heritage Society are putting on a display of images on the exhibition wall in Hucknall Library for the whole of January.

I close by wishing a Happy New Year to all members.
