Reading Group

This month I got the librarian to pick out eight autobiographies on my behalf (latest ones not old ones) to take the members out of their comfort zone. I got each member to pick a book at random out of a bag! The books ranged from Tina Turner, Bernard Cribbins, comedian Tom Allen, Elton John, Phil Schofield, Michael McIntyre, Caroline Flack and a couple of others which I can’t remember offhand at the moment.

Next month we are reading “Wuthering Heights” by Emily Bronte – talk about from the ridiculous to the sublime!

Drama group

The Hucknall U3A Drama Group has now started meeting again and are actively looking for new members. We are a small, friendly, informal group that meet from 10am – 12 on the 4th Friday of each month.

The October meeting is on Friday 22nd and we are holding it at the home of one of our members, Julie Kujawinski. If you would like to join us please contact me, Janet Stevenson or Julie for details via the form below:-

Choir

We aren’t able to return to Sherwood House yet, apparently the rules regarding Covid preclude it, but they have indicated they look forward to our returning as the residents enjoy our meetings. That’s cheering, as the search for our musical director and accompanist goes on.

I have submitted a request for musical assistance to both my local Ravenshead Newsletter and the NG15 magazine, which should appear in their next editions. Hopefully, someone will respond, and we will find someone willing to help who will enjoy the choir as much as we do. In the meantime, please consider whether you can help in any way, I’m happy to follow up any useful suggestions.

    Reading Group

We met for the first time in over 21 months on August 4th when we enjoyed discussing the books we had read and also swapping books. The Group received free copies of a book from The Book Case at Lowdham for which we thank them.

Hopefully we shall be able to obtain a new set book from the library in time for the September meeting.

    Choir Group

We haven’t had a speedy response to our request for either a volunteer musical director or accompanist, and can’t meet again until we do, so we have therefore spread our net wider. Siobhan is making enquiries, but there is also a request on the u3a Facebook page, and those choir members on Facebook have been asked to include the information on their own pages.

Would you bear our need in mind, and think of mentioning it on your own pages, please? Your help would be appreciated, volunteers could come from anywhere, and obviously the more we spread the word, the better our chance of recruiting someone. It entails a commitment of four, enjoyable, hours each month, with a little forward planning. If you know of anyone who may be interested please let them know, they can contact me, via the form below, for any information they need to help them decide if they’d like to join us. No pressure!

    Thank you,
    Christine
