Litter Picking

January has been rather a soggy month so credit must go to those members of the group who have braved the wet weather and collected a total of 14 bags of rubbish within our area. Not only do the litter pickers get wet but so does the litter which makes it even heavier to carry. Last year 190 bags of rubbish were collected in total by the group.

If anyone has any concerns about litter in a particular area please let us know and we will make every endeavour to deal with it.

Interest Group Leaders and Helpers Meeting

On the 30th January, we held a get together and meeting for our Interest Group Leaders, Helpers and Committee Members.

With 42 people in attendance, we had some very profitable discussions.

We started with a few updates from the Committee on Guidelines for: Affiliated and Temporary Members; Data Security; Group Finances and we had the opportunity to ask Committee Members any burning questions.

The main focus of the meeting was then to think about possible new Interest Groups.

As a Committee we would like to try and introduce a few more to our list of 47.

Those who attended the meeting were very helpful and I now have a list of possible new groups. Of course, a new Interest Group needs a Leader, so we also discussed how best to achieve this and what sort of help is needed by a new Group Leader.

I will give you more details in a future Newsletter, which will give me time to consider these possibilities.

We finished the meeting with six fictional Scenarios. These created a lively end to our meeting.

Our Group Leaders and their Helpers are doing a great job and I would like to thank them all for their hard work.

Vegetarian Cookery

The January meeting saw a good size group tasting a Mushroom and Vegetable traybake and Vegetable Tortillas. There was very little waste so everyone obviously enjoyed them!

The next meeting will be on Monday 23 February at St Peter and St Paul’s hall on Ruffs Drive at 10.30 am.

We do still have a couple of spaces in this group so if anyone is interested, please contact me via the u3a website or at the main u3a meetings.
