For our June walk we strolled round Papplewick Woods and made our way via the River Leen to the site of the old Papplewick Lido, it’s interesting to stay local and learn some interesting facts both from signage on the route and a member of our group who has a lot of local knowledge!

We called in at the Griffins Head for cool drinks on our way back to the car park.

Another lovely walk.

On a beautiful Spring morning our Strollers group alighted from the tram for a walk through the Arboretum and round to the Forest where we were able to sit outside and enjoy a coffee in the excellent coffee shop.

It was interesting to see the aviaries are still standing in the Arboretum, including a memorial plaque to Cocky the Cockatoo who lived to a ripe old age, most of us remembered him from our childhood visits!

Another lovely walk!

On a beautiful sunny day a group of us enjoyed a pleasant stroll around Colliers Wood calling in at Reuben Shaws Coffee Shop en route.

Some of our members had not been here before but will  no doubt happily make a return visit.

For our first outing of the year a group of thirteen hardy Strollers ventured out on a very wet Thursday morning to stroll around Titchfield Park.

We were lucky to be allowed inside the Chapel in the graveyard which hasn’t been used since the start of Covid. It has been left just as it was after the last service was held there, hymn books, organs and official documents all collecting dust. It’s now used by the gardeners as a store. Maureen had a few tales to tell about the park and the graveyard too!

A coffee in the cafe and home to dry out.

A short walk from Newstead Village into Newstead Abbey Grounds was our last walk of the year.

Although very chilly and icy we managed the 2 miles without any mishaps and refreshments at the Newstead Community Cafe warmed us up once we were back in the village.

Thanks to those who have supported the group over the last six months.
