Our meeting point for the July walk was the parking lay-by near Greasley Church.

It was a warm, sunny day and a busy lay-by as Gedling Ramblers were also assembling to start their walk from there at 10am.

Our walk took us across the field footpath from the church towards Moorgreen, skirting Colliers Wood before taking the footpath through the Industrial Estate.

This is on the site that was once Moorgreen Colliery and Mining Training Centre.

The photograph shows the centre in the 1970s.

The walk continued to Lower Beauvale followed by a steep ascent to Beauvale passing both the Greasley Beauvale Primary School (where DH Lawrence was a pupil) and then the new 2011 school before reaching Newthorpe and finally back to Greasley. The original school site became a Listed Building in 2008.

Our next walk is on Thursday August 15^th starting from Farnsfield.

Our June walk started at Linby Village.

The route was across the meadow to Papplewick, into Moor Pond Woods following the footpaths by the River Leen to Grange Farm and Grange Mill.

Some of us could remember that once upon a time this used to be the location of Papplewick Lido. This was built on the site of the former Papplewick Grange, the home of Nottingham solicitor Jesse Hind, which was pulled down in 1932. The lido itself was built in the mid 1930s and demolished in 1995, with houses now built on the site.

Our return route took us via Papplewick Dam and the fishing pond back to Linby where we made good use of the facilities at Brooke farm.

July Walk

On Thursday 18^th July we are meeting at the large lay-by car park at Greasley Church. Church Road Greasley NG16 2AB

Meet at 9.45am for a 10.00am start

During our walk on May 16th we experienced some rain but it did not dampen the spirits of the ten hardy walkers. Our oldest walker is Ken Carlin who at the age of 95 is testimony to an active lifestyle.

It was a 4 mile route with a few undulations starting from Blidworth Bottoms with an immediate ascent to get the heart and lungs pumping.

June 20^th Walk

This is a local walk of about 4 miles on gentle terrain with no stiles.

Most of our local walks have been in autumn and winter and it is interesting to see how the landscape changes in the warmer months.

Meet outside the Horse and Groom in Linby village at 9.45am for a 10.00am start.

Parking is available in front of the pub, on Church Lane or at Brook Farm if you intend visiting the cafe after the walk.

It was a local walk starting from the Nabb Inn over pleasant undulating countryside.

The bonus was dry weather conditions.

May 16^th Walk

This month we are starting from the Longdale Lane car park at Blidworth Woods.

Meet at 9.45am for a 10.00am start. More details later.

We will be walking through pine woodlands and open heath and at the end is a popular refreshment cabin serving food and drinks at reasonable prices.

Our walk on Thursday March 21^st involved a tram ride to Nottingham Midland Station followed by an interesting 4 mile walk starting along the canal by the courthouses before reaching the River Trent opposite the City Ground.

En route we paid a visit to the Memorial Gardens with its fountains and imposing statue of Queen Victoria. Our progress was along the river and the Meadows area.

It was good to see some old and new faces on the walk and our thanks to Phil and Liz Attenborough for organising and leading the route.
