No Weekender group activities again this month of course but we had truncated, Coffee Club, self-distancing, get togethers at 2.00 pm on Friday, 24th July with four or five of us meeting in four different members’ gardens, bringing our own fold up chairs and drinks. This was changed from Saturday, 25th because of the weather forecast. We have all kept in touch with one another and I have sent out a Weekenders July Newsletter to those on email, with a request for copies to be run off and posted through the doors of those not on email; thanks to the walkers amongst us who delivered the newsletter.

Our New Cinema
I am sure that most of our U3A members are now aware that our new cinema, The ARC, is now open and at a difficult time for cinemas in general. Some of you may be still worried about your safety from the virus in the cinemas, but your fears should be allayed by the fact that the government does not require you to wear face coverings in cinemas. Also seating within the cinema is well spaced out to respect social distancing and sanitisation measures within the cinema are extensive.
In respect of the fact that there are no new films currently being released The Arc have reduced their prices to £6.50 whist having to show slightly older films and calling them Summer Classics.
Films commencing before 5.00 p.m. are £4.50 The listing is as follows:-
1917 showing at 5.00 p.m.
Batman Begins £5.20 p.m.
Dirty Dancing at 5.30 p.m.
Harry Potter and the prisoner of Azkaban at 4.45 p.m.
La La Land at 7.50 p.m.
Matrix Reloaded, The at 8.00 p.m.

Reports received from patrons are that seating is excellent with electric recliner upholstered seats, excellent sound and air conditioning. Refreshments are available including alcohol.
Meerkat Movies – I am still trying to understand this but it appears that if you use “Compare The Market” then you can get a 2-for-1 offer. Meerkat ticket offers can only be purchased from the ticket office in the Foyer. All other tickets can be purchased on line or on the phone.
If going by car the nearest car park is the Park n Ride Tram stop (free) also the Market Place and Piggins Croft.

Hucknall Christmas Tree Festival 2016
The festival runs from Wednesday 7th pm to Saturday 10th December at 11.30am in the Parish Church. It is a community event in which we are proud to be a part.
This year we have not got one of these:
As we are trying something different.
Coordinated by the Cycle group and thanks to the welding skills of John Gibson, the decorative skills of Sue Gibson and the creative skills of many group members we are submitting our entry called : ‘The Cycle of Life’.
We have had an amazing and wonderful response from the Interest Groups.
The ideas and creativity of the decorations have to be seen in 3 dimensions to be really appreciated. The photograph of the almost complete tree does not do it justice but conveys the idea.
More group decorations have been received since the photographs was taken and it is enhanced by white decorative lights.
Please take the time to visit the festival and if you think it deserves it vote for the Hucknall U3A Cycle of Life Tree.
