The Easier Walk Group 2 visited The Arboretum on 31st October and enjoyed the beautifully coloured trees and crunched though the dry fallen leaves.
It was surprising to see a squirrel calmly sitting up in front of us, apparently hoping for food. We were hoping for a coffee stop, but the cafe was closed.
One path was lined with a variety of carved pumpkins. We were intrigued with the Japanese memorial to soldiers in The Crimean War and war in China.
October’s meeting saw the highest number of attendees that we have had, and all enjoyed tasting the recipes made. These were Parmesan shortbreads, ideal for a snack or a party, Mushroom, nut and Cranberry Jalousie, and chocolate biscuits. As usual there was nothing left at the end of the session and several members were keen to go home to try out the recipes.
I would like to say a big thank you to those who attended but also to those who helped with the clearing and the washing up! I hope you all enjoy trying out the recipes for yourself.
November’s meeting will be on Monday the 25th, at 10.30 am at St Peter and St Paul’s church Hall on Ruffs Drive. This will be the last meeting of the year and there will be a demonstration of a dish suitable for a Christmas Dinner.
The group is now full with over 40 members so we are not taking any new members at the moment.

Last month the group had a question and answer Garden Problem session. The answers were provided by experts at the Garden News magazine, and it is encouraging to hear that they also suffer the same types of problems and difficulties in their gardens.
There were tips on how to successfully grow different plants, how and when to prune, and how to deal with tenacious weeds. Autumn is considered the Gardeners’ New Year, a time to plan and prepare for the next seasons’ growing. Sow the seed swap was very successful and is something we will consider again in the future.
November’s meeting, on the 19th is again at the John Godber Centre, when we will welcome Patricia Rayner who is going to talk about Japanese Gardens and the particular style of gardening.
All are welcome as we are an open group.
Once again members of the litter picking group have been busy in October, clearing 15 bags of rubbish from our area. If anyone is interested in joining the group please contact me as per group details at the end of the newsletter. Equipment and tabards will be provided.

In October thirteen members of the group attended an Autumn Wreath Making Workshop at Floral Media in Caunton, near Newark.
We travelled in the Ravenshead Community minibus for the afternoon workshop.
Paula, the business owner demonstrated the basics and then we set to on our own creations. The two-hour session went very quickly and the tea/coffee and homemade cake was an added bonus!
Everyone enjoyed the session and we think we’ll arrange to attend their Christmas Wreath Making workshop next year!
