u3a Outdoor Promotion

On Saturday 21st May, Hucknall and District u3a took part in a Rotary Club activity on Hucknall Market Place, open from 10am to 3pm. Over twenty local activity groups took part and it was very well attended by the Hucknall public.

Quite a few folk took interest in our display, we had several interested in joining, and one guy actually signed up and paid his enrolment fees.

On Saturday 18th June, we have a similar activity organised by Ashfield Council on Titchfield Park, we are looking for a few volunteers to share the load of attending the stall,
Please see Lynda Smeathers if you can help.

Litter Picking Group

For various legitimate reasons, May has been a bit of a slow month for the litter pickers. Nevertheless 14 bags of rubbish have been collected thus far which has helped to make our environment cleaner and greener.

There is no limit to the number of people in the group – the more members we have the better it is for the environment – equipment is provided, there is no requirement to collect a certain amount of rubbish and no set days when it takes place. We are a flexible group!

Should anyone else wish to join the group or require further information please email me on litter@hucknallu3a.org

Short Walks

The May walk which started from Langley Mill canal basin was led by Phil and Liz Attenborough who report:

‘We had a lovely walk, about four miles along the canal, 13 people turned up. The highlight was being attacked by Swans guarding their young, and I mean really attacked! So much so, Sue Naylor used her jacket as a matador cloak! What fun we have eh!’

June 16th Walk

The circular walk of about 4 miles starts at the large lay-by next to Greasley Church.

Church Road Greasley NG16 2AB

It includes a visit to the remains of the old windmill at Giltbrook. At the end there is the opportunity to pop into the ‘Parish Oven’ cafe run by church volunteers for a drink and maybe a cake…

Meet at 9.45 for a 10am start.
