Long Walking Group

On 2nd August, we had a lovely walk in Sherwood Forest, fortunately we didn’t meet any outlaws – a few in-laws perhaps! It was 8 miles, easy and very flat on decent trails; we passed many very ancient oak trees, saw Edwins Stowe which marks the spot where St. Edwin’s chapel once stood. the Centre Oak and finally the Major Oak. It was a good day for walking and we all had a good chat and picnic; everyone enjoyed it.

It would be nice to see a few more members; if you can walk 6 miles in the medium walks group you can walk 8 miles in the Long Walks Group, we are a very friendly bunch.

The next walk will be ‘Nene valley and Old Sulehay Forest’, again, approximately. 8 miles.

    Litter Picking group

At the time of writing 15 bags of litter have been collected by the group in July. Unfortunately there is still plenty of litter out there so if anyone is troubled by the amount of litter in a particular area please let us know and we will do our best to get rid of it for you. However, sadly we can’t guarantee that it will stay litter free.

There is no limit to the number of people in the Hucknall u3a Litter Picking Group so if anyone else would like to join, or for further information, please contact me by telephone or by email at litter@hucknallu3a.org.uk

Tabards and basic equipment will be provided. You will be made very welcome.

    Byron’s Rest – Mini Beer Festival – Thursday, 28th July, 2022

Regrettably the CAMRA Beer Festival at the John Godber Centre to be held at the end of July had to be cancelled, mainly due to the current hot weather and not being able to keep the casks of beer cooled.

Pleased to say that one of Hucknall’s micro pubs, The Byron’s Rest ,(voted CAMRA’s pub of the year 2022) came to the rescue and organised a Mini Beer Festival from 28th to 30th of July.

Eleven of our members rose to the occasion and spent Thursday evening sampling a selection of the twelve different beers available, all of which were announced as very acceptable.

We will be having a break in August and gathering in September to make a trip on the tram to visit some hostelries in Beeston
