Short Walks

On the 15th September 16 members enjoyed a 4.2 miles woodland meander through Sansome Woods starting and finishing at Burnt Stump Country Park.

This country park is a favourite of families in the area. It consists mainly of deciduous woodland, with an area of grassland and a cricket pitch, all conveniently close to the Burntstump public house. Some of the group are pictured outside the Burnt Stump Pub at the end of the walk.

Short Walk – July

A pleasant and cooler walk was enjoyed by thirteen members in July. Starting at the tram stop in Hucknall we made our way to Brooke Farm in Linby for refreshments. We were surprised to learn that some of us had never been there! We thought it was a popular U3A coffee stop!

Back through Papplewick Woods, via Moor Pond, and onto the path along the River Leen where the (almost) newly laid path was admired by some of us! Back home by the bottom of the golf course to our starting point.

Short Walks

On a warm and sunny June 16th, thirteen members completed a 4.2 mile circular walk, starting and finishing at Greasley Parish Church. On the walk, at Gilthill, are the ruins of the old Kimberley West Windmill and grain store. There is very little left now but this is a greetings card which uses a painting of the mill dated 1900 by the Nottingham artist, Thomas Hammond.

Short Walks

The May walk which started from Langley Mill canal basin was led by Phil and Liz Attenborough who report:

‘We had a lovely walk, about four miles along the canal, 13 people turned up. The highlight was being attacked by Swans guarding their young, and I mean really attacked! So much so, Sue Naylor used her jacket as a matador cloak! What fun we have eh!’

June 16th Walk

The circular walk of about 4 miles starts at the large lay-by next to Greasley Church.

Church Road Greasley NG16 2AB

It includes a visit to the remains of the old windmill at Giltbrook. At the end there is the opportunity to pop into the ‘Parish Oven’ cafe run by church volunteers for a drink and maybe a cake…

Meet at 9.45 for a 10am start.
