Our walk on Thursday March 21^st involved a tram ride to Nottingham Midland Station followed by an interesting 4 mile walk starting along the canal by the courthouses before reaching the River Trent opposite the City Ground.

En route we paid a visit to the Memorial Gardens with its fountains and imposing statue of Queen Victoria. Our progress was along the river and the Meadows area.

It was good to see some old and new faces on the walk and our thanks to Phil and Liz Attenborough for organising and leading the route.

In February we had an exhilarating walk around Gedling Country Park.

It was a dry breezy day and from the viewing platforms it was possible to identify some of the landmarks and features towards Newark and Lincoln.

At the end of the walk we enjoyed a well deserved drink in the café.

And now for something a little bit different. Our next walk on Thursday March 21st will be led by Liz and Phil Attenborough. It includes a tram ride and an interesting urban walk from the Nottingham Midland Station tram stop.

We will meet at Hucknall Tram station to catch the first tram after 9.30, for those wishing to use other means of transport meet at Midland Station tram stop at 10.15. The walk is along the canal and down to the river, taking in the Memorial Gardens on the way. The distance is about four and a half generally flat miles.

Our walk this month is on the 15^th February 2024. It was intended to be our January walk but we cancelled due to the severe cold weather and high probability of icy conditions underfoot.

The walk starts in Farnsfield

Details: 4.6 miles mildly undulating with 450ft ascent. Mainly fields and grassy paths, with a couple of short stretches of quiet road. There are 4 stiles along the route and we may possibly meet some mud!

Meet: 9.45 am for a 10.00 am start.

On December 20^th we did a 4 mile local walk starting and finishing at Brooke Farm, Linby.

Some of the route followed the River Leen and the group photograph is in front of Papplewick Dam.

We had been forewarned by Brooke Farm to arrive by 11.30am as it was the day of their staff party with an early closing time of 12.30pm.

However most of the group managed to find seats and enjoyed a welcome warm drink after the walk.

In November we finally managed the walk from Gravelly Hollow through Watchwood Woods towards Calverton across the Calverton Colliery reclaimed land. We made a couple of diversions off the intended route to avoid too much mud.

In December it’s a local walk starting and finishing at Brooke Farm cafe Linby.

 Note the date and change of day to Wednesday, 20^th December for a  9.45am meet.
