Litter Picking

With the onset of longer daylight hours and an improvement in the weather, litter louts seem to have been out and about more – but so have our litter pickers who have managed to clear our areas of 25 bags of rubbish during February. The most bizarre item which one litter picker found this month in Washdyke Lane Park was a large traffic bollard which has since been placed next to a litter bin in readiness for collection by the council.

Starting on Monday 3rd March Ashfield District Council are rolling out ‘The BIG Ashfield Spring Clean’ as part of their commitment to make Ashfield a cleaner place to live, work and visit. Residents are invited to dispose of a small amount of bagged household waste during their designated week and on top of this, Flying Skips will be out and about across the District for you to dispose of extra waste, toys and bric-a-brac. See the Ashfield District Council website for full details.

Litter Picking

In January members of the group collected 13 bags of litter which is quite a lot taking into account the mainly inclement weather, so thank you litter pickers!

For the whole of 2024 a total of 215 bags of litter were collected and correctly disposed of by the group 🚮. Sadly this is only a small proportion of rubbish dumped in and around Hucknall but we are doing our best to help improve our environment so if anyone knows of any particular grot spots please do let us know.

Litter Picking

Members have obviously had other things to do on the run up to Christmas. However, one member has managed to collect 9 bags of rubbish and other members have collected small amounts of litter on their perambulations and disposed of it in the nearest litter bins. No doubt there will be plenty for us to do when normality resumes.

On behalf of the Litter Picking Group may I wish all members of Hucknall & District u3a a healthy and happy 2025.

Litter Picking

November has thrown a lot of diverse weather at us – heavy rain, strong winds and a lot of snow, none of which is conducive to litter picking. Nonetheless members of the group have braved the weather whenever possible and collected a total of 15 bags of rubbish which under the circumstances is very commendable. One member has commented how much she enjoys chatting to people as she collects  litter, a comment with which I think other members of the group can associate.

Most members of the public do seem to appreciate our efforts. I just wish litter louts would pack it in!
