Fun with Languages

Last meeting we had brain ache with some grammar on nouns, gender and agreements of singular and plural. Also a peep into pronouns. However, despite the grammar, enjoyment was had in the role-play groups as we practised asking directions and finding places in a town.

Our next meeting will be Thursday, 9th June, 2022 at John Godber Centre, Byron Suite, at 10.30 till 12 noon. We shall be highlighting food and eating out. And to follow up on this we hope to have a drinks and nibbles session which will be hosted this time by Liz. This may go on a bit longer than 12 noon. Further details in due course.

As always, if new members wish to come and join us you are welcome.

Ann Murray & Liz Attenborough

Fun with Languages

Our meeting in March began Spanish from scratch and we were delighted to meet several new members, who all seemed to survive the fun and chaos so far! We hope to see you all at our next meeting on 14th April at the John Godber Centre, Byron Suite, 10.30 till 12 noon and subscriptions will be collected then, I am afraid.

We shall continue in our course looking at YouTube Ana and numbers, and other things. As Covid is on the increase, please do not come if you have a cold etc. and we shall ventilate the room so dress appropriately; also please wear a mask if you feel you want to, the John Godber Centre still encourage this. We all try to look out for each other.

There is still time to join us this April if you wish. Folks are welcome.

Fun with Languages

This course has been running for a few years now and we are conscious that we have several new U3A members. In order to give new people a chance to learn a language, we have decided to start Spanish from scratch on 10th March at the John Godber Centre at 10.30 am until 12 noon. This is a good chance to start now, if you want to join us. It will be a good refresher too for the rest of us!!

We meet in the Byron Suite and you will be made welcome. February saw the last of our French sessions for a little while and we had a good time reading and answering questions on les Frères et les Soeurs, and had a deep discussion emanating from this. Thanks to all those who contributed.

Sadly we have lost four members due to the Insleys move and others going on to pastures new; we wish them all well.

Hope to see you next month!

Ann Murray and Liz Attenborough.

Fun with Languages

This month in view of the rising Covid cases and having some vulnerable members of the group, we decided to Zoom meet. Sadly, not everyone made it on, but those who did all shared very well their Christmas events and their hopes and resolutions for the new year in French. Well done all!

We are very much hoping that the February meeting on Thursday 10th at 10.30 am in the John Godber Centre Byron suite will be an in-person one, but we will review this nearer the date and email all the group involved.

We are sad to be losing Carol and David Insley in the coming weeks as they are moving to new pastures. We wish them Bon Voyage and we shall miss them.

New members are welcome and we hope that 2022 improves for us all!

Best wishes,
Ann & Liz x

Fun with Languages

Our November meeting continued a mixture of revision and moving on with Ma France.

We then split into small groups for some role play on what we had watched on the videos. This had a mixed response and lots of laughs!!! To sum up, we all need more conversational practice to build up confidence again after the long period of lockdown zooms. But we will get there!

Our December meeting consists of drinks, nibbles, fun and music as we hope for safe and happier times for us all and for the world in 2022.

Our first meeting of the new year will be on Thursday 13th January, 2022 at 10.30 am in John Godber Centre. New members welcome.
