Fun with Languages

Our February meeting was rather low on numbers due to holidays and the adverse weather conditions among other things. However, well done to the eight brave souls who got there and were snow people going home!!

We used an audio online practice on the previous month’s German greetings etc and some found this challenging on the concentration. We managed to get through it and had some laughs along the way. It was lovely to have Phil Nathan back with us.

Our next meeting will be on Thursday 14th March  at 10.30 am in the Byron Suite in JGC and hopefully the snow will not be with us for that! We shall be concentrating on numbers and some fun with them in German. Anyone is welcome to join in our meetings.

Fun with Languages

Our first German session of introduction began well in January. It was lovely to see some familiar faces return to the group also. There is still room for more if you want to have a go at learning basic German. We enjoyed New Year nibbles also and had a quiz which opened the eyes of many to facts about Germany as a country.

Our next session will be on Thursday 8th February at JGC at 10.30 am till 12 noon in the Byron suite, when we shall continue to explore more basic German. We hope to see you there!

Our meeting in November went well with a good effort made by many to describe in French the Christmas they enjoyed in the past or the one they anticipate for this year! We then had a great rehearsal for our presentation song on 8th December at the U3A extravaganza afternoon. Thank you Ian for keeping us going with the guitar accompaniment!

We shall reconvene on Thursday 11th January, 2024 at 10.30 am in JGC and we shall start a new course on basic German. £5-00 fees needed please if you did not hand this in in November.

If you want to join the language group, you are most welcome and January will be a good time to start on a new language. Have a happy, peaceful Christmas and new year. Get well soon if you are ill!

October’s meeting was a bit low on numbers owing to some illness and some still enjoying holidays. We hope that those who are ill recover soon and we look forward to seeing you at the next meeting on Thursday 9th November 10.30 am in the John Godber Centre, Byron Suite.

We continued with French, watching a short video about walking and scenic routes, completed some oral translation and had some laughs trying to practise our song for the presentations on Friday 8th December. Please support that.

We decided to leave our usual Xmas meal until after Christmas this time so we had something to look forward to after all the celebrations. Also many members had a lot of bookings in December.

Next month we shall practise our song and continue with French. We shall change language for January, so watch this space!!

Our August meeting continued in French with finding our way about town, ordering train or boat tickets etc. It also included a few practice sentences to translate and a crossword puzzle on places in France. To those on holiday I sent out the relevant worksheets earlier so you shouldn’t miss out on anything.

Please can you practise THE song for the Christmas presentation (date to be confirmed)

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 12th, at 10.30 am in John Godber C entre, Byron suite.

NO MEETING IN SEPTEMBER.

Hope to see you in October, if not before!

Ann and Liz.
