History Group

The History Group always welcomes all U3A members especially new ones. Our indoor meeting place is Central Methodist Church on Baker Street: time 2pm – 4pm ish.

The meeting on February 22nd when the speaker was Bob Massey telling us about the postal service was all inclusive with music and film. Never did I think I would be transported back to when I watched ‘Postman Pat and His Black and White Cat’ with my eldest grandson.

The next meeting is March 15th at Central when Tony Waldron is coming to give a presentation about ‘The History of Stained Glass and how it is done’.  I look forward to seeing you then.

Kathy and Sue will be at John Godber on March 15th to take your bookings for the visit to Bassetlaw Museum at Retford on April 19th where we will see the Pilgrims Gallery display. Leaving Hucknall Ogle Street at 11am – leave Retford at 4pm. Return to Hucknall 5pm ish. Cost is £10. There is no café at the museum but there is a Weatherspoons next door for food and drinks. I am told there are many other cafés in Retford as well.

Medium Walks Group

Continuing our winter theme of local walks, 21 of us set off recently from that well-known landmark the Nabb Inn.

We headed west towards Watnall, where the work to create a ‘solar farm’ was well under way, before crossing the site of the old brickworks where the original chimneys used to be a distinctive landmark before they were demolished some years ago.

Continuing along Narrow Lane, we then headed north through the Forestry Commission woods, crossing under the motorway before returning to Hucknall via Whyburn Lane and the Misk Hills.

This was an enjoyable walk of 6 miles in dry conditions, not necessarily to be expected in February.

Our next walk will be on Monday 20th March, starting from Southwell. New members are always welcome – if you would like to join this group, use the email tab below to get in touch.

Weekenders

The Weekenders March Newsletter was sent out to its members at the end of February. Once again, many thanks to Margaret Whilde & Lindsay Smith for printing off copies for those members not on email and for delivering them on their morning walks.

We had a Broomhill Birthday Lunch for Christine Wheatley on 17th February which our depleted group very much enjoyed.

Plans are yet to be finalised for March events.
