Gardening Group Trip

Members of the Gardening group enjoyed a warm, sunny day trip to Renishaw Hall, viewing the long borders and the different “rooms” in the gardens

The white garden was particularly beautiful and scented too. The seven acres grow a variety of perennials and annuals in the woodland areas, memorial garden and more formal areas. The hydrangeas were in full flower as were the roses and other summer perennials.

The head gardener and volunteer gardeners were very knowledgeable and willing to share tips and ideas and names of unusual plants. Well worth a visit!

Fun with Languages

Our August meeting continued in French with finding our way about town, ordering train or boat tickets etc. It also included a few practice sentences to translate and a crossword puzzle on places in France. To those on holiday I sent out the relevant worksheets earlier so you shouldn’t miss out on anything.

Please can you practise THE song for the Christmas presentation (date to be confirmed)

Our next meeting will be on Thursday, October 12th, at 10.30 am in John Godber C entre, Byron suite.

NO MEETING IN SEPTEMBER.

Vegetarian Cookery group

At our July meeting, Anne treated us to two delicious dishes, Halloumi and pistachio nut roast and vegetarian ‘sausage’ rolls! Here are some of our group getting ready to sample the Brie and cranberry parcels with our coffee. We are all looking forward to our next meeting!

Watercolour Group

The Hucknall watercolour group meets on the first Monday of the month except August and December, we meet at Titchfield court from 2.00-4.00pm

The group usually has an outdoor session in August, this year we went by kind permission to Beauvale Priory to paint different aspects of the priory ruins. It was a small group but they all produced work to be proud of.

OCTOBER 25TH – Gedling Inn & Kitchen – 12 noon – Menu choices to be given at September Lunch group or u3a meeting.

NOVEMBER 22ND – Bibiana Bengal, Hucknall – 6.30 pm £11.95 pp, Starter, Main, Rice and side.

DECEMBER 20TH – Albert Hall Christmas Lunch – 12 noon – cost not yet known; Deposit October, balance November. Menu not yet received.

After organising the u3a Lunch group for fourteen years, I will be retiring after the December Christmas lunch. I have thoroughly enjoyed organising the lunches and having your company on these occasions.

I am hoping someone will be interested enough to take over this role from January. There is a file of suggested lunches for 2024 together with all other arrangements such as the quiz etc and contacts to help a future organiser. It would be very sad if no-one felt able to step forward to take over. Please contact Sandra via the form below.
