Reading Group

We met for the first time in over 21 months on August 4th when we enjoyed discussing the books we had read and also swapping books. The Group received free copies of a book from The Book Case at Lowdham for which we thank them.

Hopefully we shall be able to obtain a new set book from the library in time for the September meeting.

Weekenders’ Group

The September Newsletter will be sent out after 1st September. Once again, many thanks to Margaret Whilde & Lindsay Smith for printing off copies for those members not on email and for delivering them on their morning walks.

Sadly our member, Gladys Hibbard, passed away on 31st July. She will be much missed.

We met for a social evening on August 7th when hilarious tales of health problems and funerals were discussed, plus we had lunch at The Nabb Inn on August 14th. We also had an outing to Boundary Mills, Rotherham followed by a fish lunch at the excellent Whitby’s Restaurant.

Due to bus size restrictions for our outings, the Weekenders Group is limited to 16 members and is full at the moment.

Lunch Group

Get your best bib & tucker out ready for the first Lunch Group outing since lockdown! The details are as follows: Wednesday, 27th October at 12 noon at Miller & Carter, Papplewick.

They are restricting group sizes at this moment to 20 but by October we may be able to increase numbers to around 25. It will be a fixed price lunch menu of one course £9.95, two courses £12.95 or three courses £15.95. The menu choices will be available hopefully at the October U3A meeting but I will circulate the information earlier if I have it. Please let me know now if you wish your name to be put down. I’m afraid it will be first come, first served.

I’ve booked Sprinters at Arnold (part of the Stadium Leisure company and similar menu to that at The Broomhill) for November 24th and I am also taking names for the Christmas Lunch at the Albert Hall on Wednesday, 15th December, 2021, 3 courses for £19.95

Science 2 group

We are meeting on Friday 17th September in the Portland Room (the main upstairs hall) at the John Godber Centre. Time: 10am to 11.45am

We will be well spaced out sitting at tables in this big room. If possible please sit in small groups with family members or with friends that you often mix with. Please wear a mask when walking about, entering and leaving – unless you are exempt. The entrance is via the car park through the double doors.

This will be our first indoor meeting and it is a BYO drinks as on this occasion they will not be provided so feel free to bring your drink of choice. You will also need a pen or pencil and something to write on for a small group activity.

We had an interesting outside meeting in July and we are now moving ahead in small steps to our first meeting indoors.
