In January, we revisited Wellow, this time to walk north east of the village on a mixture of farm tracks, woodland, fields plus a little distance on a linking road. The song repeatedly sung was ‘mud, mud, glorious mud’, conditions not being helped at all by rain, sometimes very heavy. Ploughing had also taken place a day or two previously and then on the most distant field we caught up with the farmer busy turning that field over. He saw our plight and kindly created an improvised track for us with his large wheels. Big congratulations and thanks to all of the 27 walkers brave enough to take part!
Our reward was a belated ‘Christmas lunch’ at The Olde Red Lion, very efficiently served and most welcome. Thanks to Paul and Steph Haigh for organising the whole day.
Our next walk will be to Warsop, on Monday February 19th
