Culland Hall Open Day – 17th June 2018

CULLAND HALL’S PERFECT POTAGER
OPEN GARDENS & SPECIALIST PLANT FAIR
Culland Hall, Brailsford, Ashbourne, Derbyshire DE6 3BW
Sunday 17th June 2018, 10am – 3pm (New hours)

Just six miles outside the Georgian market town of Ashbourne in Derbyshire, but hidden within a maze of country lanes sits Culland Hall. Approached down a classical parkland drive through a herd of Lleyn and Jacob sheep, Culland is home to a magnificent private four acre garden, open to the public for just one day each year.

Those “in the know” have been visiting Culland’s magnificent gardens for over 12 years now, eager to see the annual progression in owner Lucy Thompson’s mission to create an English garden idyll. “This year’s project is a new fernery”, says Lucy, “We discovered an old wall in the Woodland Walk which will create the perfect, naturalistic home for some amazing specimen ferns”. Although it’s in its’ infancy, visitors will be able to see the bones of the new project first hand at the Culland Hall Open Gardens on Sunday 17th June 2018.

Visitors looking for a burst of colour won’t be disappointed by the fragrant rose garden, featuring over 100 different varieties, the “hot” border crammed with rich reds and oranges, and the calming “white garden” – not forgetting the charming potager (think Peter Rabbit) nurturing neat rows of carrots, cabbages and lettuces and straw-bedded strawberries.

On the day there will be a hand-picked selection of specialist nurseries (some RHS) selling plants with some exciting new exhibitors too alongside gardening related antiques and paintings, with home-made refreshments served throughout the day in the walled kitchen garden.
Entrance: £6.00. Children Free. Free Car Park.

Culland Hall is just 6 miles south of Ashbourne and 7 miles north of Derby, off the A52 at Brailsford and will be well signposted on the day.
