Creative Writing Group

We meet from 1-3 pm on the fourth Tuesday of each month. Our venue is the Liberal Club on West Street. Members are given a title, sentence or just a word to inspire us to write a piece of around 500 words which we develop at home and then read out to fellow members at the next meeting, for constructive criticism and appraisal. After a short tea-break we then do a ten minute writing exercise or something similar.
I did my best with Hucknall U3A’s entry for the Christmas Tree Display in the Parish Church. Unfortunately we didn’t win this year but you do have to give everyone else a chance, don’t you? The theme for our tree was “Create the ‘write’ words for Christmas” and involved 50 fans made from folded U3A publicity leaflets, tied on with blue and yellow ribbons (our colours), each having a set of wings on with the name of our groups, plus a blue pen hanging on each branch. Also there were 50 different words associated with Christmas also hanging from the branches. Our tree this year was a white LED lit tree, only four feet high, whilst many of the other entries had been influenced (I feel) by our six feet high winning tree from last year. Perhaps our groups should be thinking NOW about who will volunteer to do the 2019 tree and get your innovative ideas together.

In December our homework for the January meeting was to write about our first experience of either faith, religion, spirituality or education. The next meeting will be on Tuesday, 22nd January when we will also discuss the viability of continuing the Creative Writing Group as unfortunately out of the original twelve names we only have an average of four turning up for the meetings. So if there are any new members to U3A who might be interested, please contact Sandra Green for further information on the form below:-
